Once all players have received their two personal cards, there’s a round of betting. Each player must put in 2 mandatory bets called blinds, which go into the pot before any other action is taken. There are several types of hands in poker, including straights, flushes, and three of a kind. A straight contains five consecutive cards of the same rank. A flush contains five cards of the same suit, but can be mixed – for example, four of clubs and one of hearts. Three of a kind is made up of 3 matching cards of the same rank, such as three jacks or three sixes. Finally, two pair contains two cards of the same rank plus two other unmatched cards.
If you have a good hand, bet big to push out other players and increase the value of your hand. Otherwise, you should fold if your hand isn’t strong enough to beat the other player’s. Be careful, though, as a well-timed bluff can sometimes be enough to win the whole pot!
